Adopt-A-Family

Our annual holiday season Adopt-A-Family is already under way and this year more than ever before, families are struggling to make ends meet. We rely on your generous support to help our neighbors-in-need.

Last year, nearly 150 families-in-need were adopted by generous individuals, church and community groups, local clubs and businesses. With rising unemployment, mortgage foreclosures and skyrocketing food & fuel prices, neighbors who never needed our help before are now seeking our assistance. You can truly help make a difference this holiday season for so many local families. Contact WVCS TODAY to become a holiday season Adopter!

We are quick to run out to buy gifts for children, but we forget to buy gifts for those who taught us what it means to give. Families with children tend to be the first adopted through this program, leaving behind our seniors who also have needs and wishes during this holiday season. Some of our seniors are requesting simple things like walking shoes, underwear, a winter coat, and a digital clock with easy-to-read numbers. It may be more fun buying toys for a toddler but these modest items are necessary to for our seniors and their ability to live independently.  Please help us by adopting a single senior or a senior family today.

How to help and what it means to adopt a family:

The adopt-a-family process starts when our low income families, individuals, and seniors fill out the WVCS holiday wishlist. This list includes a section for items they need to have, and a section for items they would like to have. This is when adopters from the community (like you) step in. Adopters who have submitted the donor form--in picture below--are paired with a participant by the program coordinator and given the participant's wishlist.

With this list, the adopter can do 1 of 3 things:

1) Purchase all items on the list as the participants requested to a total amount no greater than $100.

2) Purchase only items that are needed such as jackets and shoes.

3) Purchase gift cards to stores for the family to pick up the items themselves. Some adopters also purchase gift cards to grocery stores where the family can purchase a holiday meal.

The adopter then drops off the unwrapped gifts on the 15th of December at Union Church in Cupertino, and the participants come on the 16th to pick them up.
